Pure vs Teac Bookshelf Speakers

Pure and Teac both suit listeners who care about design. Pure's options here are the CLASSIC-CD6 DAB+/FM CD radio at £168 in black or £179 in white, and the CLASSIC-ST music system at £349 in white or £469 in coffee black. Teac focuses on turntables, from the semi-automatic TN-180BT at £194 to the TN-280BT manual at £319 in black or walnut and the belt-drive TN-400BT-X in walnut at £499.

Pure's technology is about digital radio and streaming, with DAB+, FM, CD and Bluetooth on the CLASSIC-CD6 and Spotify Connect and Bluetooth 5.2 on the CLASSIC-ST. Teac's technology is mechanical. The TN-180BT is semi-automatic and returns the tonearm at the end of a side, the TN-280BT offers manual playback, and the TN-400BT-X uses a belt drive. All Teac models stream vinyl over Bluetooth, but they need speakers or an amplifier to make sound, while Pure systems play out of the box.

Pure suits radio and CD listeners who want a complete system that looks good in a living room or kitchen. Teac suits vinyl lovers who already have speakers, or who want a stylish turntable to pair with an existing amplifier. The cheapest Teac at £194 costs £26 more than the CLASSIC-CD6 in black, but it offers a different experience altogether, so the choice is about format rather than price. Pure has no multi-room support. Pure's systems are the better choice for anyone who wants sound straight from the box, whereas Teac's turntables ask for a second piece of equipment before they can be heard.

Bottom line: choose Pure if you want an all-in-one radio, CD and Bluetooth system for under £200; choose Teac if vinyl is the priority and you already own speakers, with the TN-180BT at £194 as the entry point.
