Bosch Series 6 WGG254ZSGB 10kg 1400rpm Washing Machine - Silver vs Series 6 1400rpm 9kg Washing Machine - Cast Iron Grey — Comparison

The Bosch WGG254ZSGB is a 10kg, 1400rpm washing machine in silver at £599, and the Bosch WGG244ZCGB is a 9kg, 1400rpm Series 6 machine in cast iron grey, also at £599. They differ in capacity and programmes, not just finish: the silver model has 10kg and 14 programmes, while the grey model has 9kg and 20 programmes. Both are 598mm wide and 845mm high, and both have a two-year guarantee and a reduced creasing option.

The grey model is rated A for noise at 71dB, against B and 74dB for the silver model. The silver has a 15 or 30 minute quick wash and an energy figure of 51, against a 30-minute quick wash and 49 for the grey model. The grey model has a hand wash setting, which the silver lacks, and it weighs 72.5kg against 74kg.

Buyers of the silver model praise its quiet running, easy use, good range of programmes and delayed start for cheaper night tariffs. Its complaints concern a long cotton cycle, a quick wash that feels short, and a dressing gown that does not spin dry. Buyers of the grey model praise its quiet and efficient running, and one buyer misses the tune of a previous machine.

Bottom line: choose the Bosch WGG254ZSGB if you need the extra 1kg of capacity and are happy with a 74dB noise rating; choose the Bosch WGG244ZCGB if you want a quieter-rated machine with more programmes and a hand wash setting, in cast iron grey.
