Panasonic vs Technics Bookshelf Speakers

Panasonic and Technics both sell hi-fi, but they sit at different prices. Panasonic's models here start at the SC-HC302EBK slim system at £149 and reach the SC-PMX802 premium hi-fi with DAB and CD at £549. Technics starts higher, with the SCC70MK2 all-in-one at £799 in black or silver and the SB-600E-K pair of premium passive speakers at £999.

The Technics SCC70MK2 has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a floorstanding design, JENO Engines and Space Tune, which adapts the sound to the room, plus iOS device calibration. The SB-600E-K pair uses a two-way bass reflex design with an Advanced Phase Precision driver, but it is passive and needs an amplifier. Panasonic's systems offer CD, DAB+ and Bluetooth, with 80W total stereo power on the SC-PM702 and hi-res streaming on the SC-PMX802, but room tuning is a Technics feature in this comparison.

Panasonic suits budget-minded buyers who want a neat CD and radio system for a bedroom, kitchen or small living room, and the SC-PMX802 for a bigger room without premium pricing. Technics suits music lovers who want premium sound at home, either as an all-in-one with streaming or as passive speakers to pair with a serious amplifier. Casual listeners will find the Panasonic adequate. The price gap between the SC-PMX802 at £549 and the SCC70MK2 at £799 is £250, and it buys more features. Buyers in the middle of this range should compare the SC-PMX802 with the Technics all-in-one, since both include CD playback and Bluetooth in a single unit.

Bottom line: choose Panasonic if you want a compact CD and radio system for £549 or less; choose Technics if you want premium sound, room tuning and streaming in an all-in-one at £799, or the SB-600E-K pair for an existing amplifier.
