Smeg vs Whirlpool Built-in Ovens

Smeg and Whirlpool offer ovens at similar sizes, but their pricing and design approaches differ. Smeg's options include the SF6400TB 70 litre single oven at £419, the DUSF400S double oven at £1,129 and the DOSF6300X double oven at £1,179. Whirlpool is more affordable across its range, from the AKZ96220IX 73 litre electric oven at £349 to the W7OM44S1P 73 litre single oven at £599.

Smeg's ovens are defined by design, with fingerprint-proof stainless steel, eclipse black glass on the DOSF6300X and robust metal knobs. Its Smart Sense system offers up to 50 automatic recipes, and the SF6400TB adds Vapour Clean and rapid pre-heating. Whirlpool's engineering focus is automation: the 6th Sense system on the W7 OM5 4S P sets temperature and cooking time automatically, and the W7OM44S1P adds Cook4 cooking with an assisted display. Premium Smeg models feature pyrolytic cleaning, as do the Whirlpool W7OM44S1P and W7 OM5 4S P. The Whirlpool AKL309IX provides a 70 litre main oven and a 39 litre second oven for £529, which costs less than the Smeg DUSF400S at £1,129.

Smeg suits buyers who put design first, such as anyone refitting a kitchen where the oven sits in a visible run of cabinets. It also works for households that cook at weekends and want a striking appliance. Whirlpool suits cooks who want more automation and value, particularly those who cook for a family and want dual cavities. The AKZ96220IX at £349 is the cheapest oven in this pairing and suits a rental or a tight budget.

Bottom line: choose Smeg if a design-led finish and a single oven at £419 matter most, and choose Whirlpool if you want automated cooking, a dual-cavity option at £529 or the lowest price at £349.
