Beko vs Smeg Fridge Freezers

Beko and Smeg are at opposite ends of the price scale. Beko's range runs from £349 for the CFG4552B to £879 for the GN446224VPZ. Smeg starts at £1,999 for the FQI60KD 522-litre American-style fridge freezer, with the FQ60BDE 572-litre white model at £2,579 at the top of the range. Smeg's cheapest model costs £1,120 more than Beko's most expensive, so this is a choice between an everyday appliance and a design statement.

Beko's features focus on NeoFrost Dual Cooling, EverFresh+ drawers and the ProSmart Inverter compressor. Smeg emphasises retro-modern design with curved edges and chrome handles, combined with Total No Frost on the FQ60BDE and MultiZone storage on the FQI60KD. Smeg's fast freezing function and LED interior lighting add practical value, and its 376-litre fridge and 196-litre freezer net capacities suit a larger household. Beko's technology keeps costs down, while Smeg's keeps the kitchen looking distinctive.

Beko suits first-time buyers, renters and families that need a practical fridge freezer without premium extras. Smeg suits buyers who want a statement appliance in colours such as Pastel Blue, Cream and Ruby Red, and who are happy to pay for it. The 572-litre FQ60BDE at £2,579 is a good fit for a large kitchen where the appliance will be a focal point. The FQ60NDE is available in black, while the FQ60BDE comes in white, which gives buyers two colour choices within the same American-style design. Beko's GN446224VPZ is the closest Beko to Smeg's size, at 572 litres and £879. Smeg's retro styling and Beko's practical design make the two brands suit very different kitchens.

Bottom line: choose Beko if you want a frost-free fridge freezer from £349 at a low cost, and choose Smeg if you want a retro-styled American-style unit from £1,999 with Total No Frost and a 376-litre fridge section.
