Hotpoint vs Smeg Fridges

Hotpoint covers £275 to £478 across its fridge range, with the SH6A2QWRUK 322-litre tall larder at £409 as its middle option and the H55VM1120WUK 105-litre undercounter at £275 as the entry model. Smeg sits higher, with the UKFS18EV2HB black and UKFS18EV2HX stainless steel tall larder fridges both at £929 and 390 litres net capacity. The top Hotpoint fridge here, at £478, is £451 below the Smeg models.

Smeg's differentiator is its 1950s-inspired design and build, with fingerproof stainless steel on the HX and a choice of colours beyond the usual white and black. Hotpoint focuses on function: automatic defrost, Fast Freeze on the 366-litre SH8A2 models and electronic temperature control across the range. The Smeg larders are rated C for 40dB noise, while the Hotpoint SH6A2QWRUK is C-rated at 38dB, so the noise gap is small and the Hotpoint is the slightly quieter of the two.

Hotpoint suits a family or first-time buyer who wants a reliable fridge without paying a premium, with sizes from a 105-litre icebox model to a 366-litre freestanding unit. Smeg suits a homeowner who sees the fridge as part of the kitchen's look, for example a retro-styled room with coordinated appliances. It is also a good fit for anyone who wants a 390-litre larder with a stainless finish that resists fingerprints and keeps the front tidy day to day. Smeg's larders also suit a kitchen that needs tall storage in one unit, since the 390-litre cabinet is designed to fit a standard footprint.

Bottom line: choose Hotpoint if you want the lower price and the wider choice of sizes, with models from £275. Choose Smeg if the look matters as much as the function and you are ready to pay £929 for 390 litres.
