Haden vs Kenwood Kettles

Prices overlap between Haden and Kenwood. Haden's models here run from £39 for the Highclere 1.5-litre to £44 for the Jersey Red, with the Heritage at £42. Kenwood's range runs from £27 for the cordless Abbey Collection 1.7-litre in white to £34 for the 1.7-litre 3000W kettle in blue, while the Ripple Collection 1.5-litre is £39 in Midnight Eggshell or white. Kenwood can therefore undercut the cheapest Haden by £12.

Kenwood's Abbey and blue 1.7-litre kettles both use a 3000W element, and the Abbey adds a removable limescale filter and flip-top lid. The blue model has a 360-degree base, and the Ripple Collection adds a 3kW rapid boil, a wide spout and water windows. Haden's Highclere and Heritage offer a 3000W element and 360-degree swivel base as well, with an extra removable filter, so on paper the specifications are close. The real differences are colour, style and the price at the bottom of each range.

Haden suits buyers who like a retro or country look and want a kettle that matches a Haden toaster. It fits households who want a bright colour in either 1.5 or 1.7 litres. Kenwood suits buyers who want a plainer, practical kettle with a clean white finish and a cordless base, and who want a full-size kettle at the lower price. A family that boils a lot of water will value the 1.7-litre capacity of both brands, while a single person may find the 1.5-litre Ripple easier to store. Buyers who plan to keep the kettle for years should check the limescale filter, which both brands offer in some form.

Bottom line: choose Haden if you want a colourful retro kettle that matches a Haden toaster, choose Kenwood if you want the cheaper full-size 1.7-litre Abbey kettle at £27 or a 3kW 1.5-litre Ripple Collection kettle.
