Haden vs KitchenAid Kettles

Haden and KitchenAid sit at opposite ends of the kettle price scale. Haden's models here run from £39 for the Highclere Pool Blue 1.5-litre to £44 for the Jersey Red 1.5-litre, with the Heritage 1.7-litre at £42. KitchenAid's Artisan kettle with a 3kW element is £179 in Pistachio, Almond Cream or Black, which is at least £135 more than the most expensive Haden model here. The difference is about the design statement rather than the basic job of boiling water.

Haden's Highclere and Heritage kettles offer 3000W power, a 360-degree base and an extra limescale filter, and the Jersey Red adds Rapid Boil technology. KitchenAid's Artisan uses a 3kW element in a smooth, rounded body with a 1.5-litre capacity, which matches the Haden 1.5-litre on size. The KitchenAid's power is the same as Haden's top models, so the real difference is finish and where the kettle sits in the room. Haden's chrome details show fingerprints, while the KitchenAid is heavier than plastic kettles.

Haden suits buyers who want a stylish, low-cost kettle with a retro look that matches Haden toasters, especially in a first home or a kitchen with pastel or country colours. KitchenAid suits people who are building a coordinated premium kitchen around KitchenAid Artisan stand mixers and want a kettle that works as a feature piece. For a household that boils a few cups a day, Haden's saving is hard to ignore. For someone who sees the kettle as part of the room's design, the KitchenAid's price is easier to justify.

Bottom line: choose Haden if you want a 1.5-litre or 1.7-litre retro kettle for £39 to £44 that matches a Haden toaster, choose KitchenAid if you already own Artisan stand mixers and want a 3kW kettle in Pistachio, Almond Cream or Black at £179.
