AEG vs Whirlpool Freezers

AEG offers built-in undercounter freezers, with the OAB6I82EF at £449 and the OAB6L88ES LowFrost model at £519.99. Whirlpool has a 252 litre frost-free freezer at £599, the UW8F2CXLSB2, and two chest freezers, the WHM3112 at £459 with 315 litres and the WHM46122 at £519 with 437 litres. The difference between the OAB6L88ES and the WHM46122 is £0.99. The two brands divide the market, with AEG focused on fitted undercounter units and Whirlpool on bulk storage.

Whirlpool's UW8F2CXLSB2 uses 6th Sense technology, which monitors and responds to temperature changes to help protect frozen food, and it never needs defrosting. The chest freezers offer fast freeze functions and LED lighting, with four baskets on the WHM46122 and two on the WHM3112. AEG's OAB6L88ES adds LowFrost technology, OptiSpace storage and Frostmatic fast freezing, with TwinTech dual cooling described by AEG. Whirlpool's chest freezers need manual defrosting. The chest models also suit bulk storage, though they need floor space and manual defrosting.

AEG suits fitted kitchens and people who want built-in storage with less defrosting. Whirlpool suits batch cooks and households that buy frozen food in bulk, since the 437 litre WHM46122 gives the most capacity. The UW8F2CXLSB2 suits a freestanding, frost-free option for a family kitchen, while chest freezers need floor space. A household with a larger family or a freezer stocked in bulk should look at the WHM46122 first, as it offers more capacity than the WHM3112 for a modest step up in price.

Bottom line: choose AEG if you need a built-in undercounter with low frost at £449 to £519.99. Choose Whirlpool if you need bulk storage, such as the 437 litre WHM46122 at £519, or a frost-free 252 litre tall freezer at £599.
