Indesit vs Smeg Dishwashers

Indesit and Smeg are separated mainly by design and price. Indesit offers four models from £259 to £299, including the freestanding D2FHK26UK at £259 and the 14-place D2F HK26 B UK at £269. Smeg ranges from £399 for the 13-place Smeg DF262DB with seven programmes to £649 for the freestanding Smeg DF344BX, with the Smeg DF344BW at £536 and the silver Smeg DF344BX at £619 in between.

Smeg's distinctive feature is its retro-modern design, but the engineering is also strong. The brand cites an A+++ energy rating, 9.8 litres of water per cycle and operating noise between 42 and 44 dB(A). The silver DF344BX includes a 27-minute quick wash and opens its door after the cycle, while the DF344BW adds Dry Assist and a Half Load Flexizone. Indesit's strengths are simplicity, with a rotary dial, cutlery basket and salt indicator, plus a start delay of up to 8 hours on the 14-place model. Its water use is 9 to 11 litres per cycle.

Indesit suits anyone who wants a practical machine at the lowest price, particularly the D2FHK26UK at £259 for a small household. Smeg suits people who want a kitchen feature that also washes well, with premium build and a third basket for cutlery and small items. Smeg's installation costs and spare parts can be expensive, so the design premium is best justified by owners who will notice the look daily. Smeg's warranty is typically 2 years. The Smeg DF262DB at £399 is the most affordable Smeg model here, and the DF344BX at £649 is the most expensive.

Bottom line: choose Indesit if the lowest price and a simple control panel matter most, with the D2FHK26UK at £259. Choose Smeg if retro design, a 27-minute quick wash and premium build justify spending from £399 or more.
