LG vs Smeg Dishwashers
LG targets smart premium-mainstream homes, led by the DF355FP (£649) with DF365FMS at £629 and DF243FVS at £499 also available. Smeg aims at stylish mid-market freestanding buyers, headed by the DF344BX (£619) alongside DF344BW at £536 and DF262DB at £399. This is a choice between QuadWash, inverter drive and connected controls and Italian-look design with straightforward full-size value, with UK prices from £499 to £649 versus £399 to £619.
Technically, LG offers QuadWash multi-motion spray arms, Inverter Direct Drive, 14-place loading, EasyRack-style adjustment, ThinQ smart monitoring and steam or extra-dry features on selected models. Smeg focuses on 13-place freestanding layouts, seven programmes on the DF262DB, adjustable baskets, delay timers, eco cycles and anti-flood protection rather than app-heavy automation. So LG is strongest when quadwash, inverter drive and connected controls matters, while Smeg is stronger when italian-look design with straightforward full-size value matters. Check fitting: the quoted LG machines are freestanding full-size appliances with modern silver or black finishes; these are mainly freestanding full-size choices in white or silver finishes.
LG suits tech-friendly families who want stronger cleaning coverage and app visibility. Smeg suits homes that want a good-looking appliance without stepping into luxury pricing. Value comes from different places: The higher price is easier to justify where better racks, quieter motor control and fewer rewashes matter more than the lowest ticket price. Running costs depend more on using Eco and full loads than on paying for premium technology, so value is strongest where styling matters as much as specification. For UK bills, full loads, Eco programmes and avoiding pre-rinsing usually matter more than a small lab-rated efficiency gap.
Bottom line: choose LG if you want quadwash, inverter drive and connected controls and will use the features regularly; / opt for Smeg if italian-look design with straightforward full-size value fits your kitchen, budget and wash routine better.
