Bosch vs Miele Dishwashers

Bosch and Miele are both German dishwasher brands, but they sit at very different prices. Bosch's Series 2 range starts at £399 with the 12-place SMS26AW08G, and the 14-place SMS2HVI67G costs £449. Miele's entry point in this comparison is the 14-place G 5110 SC Active at £699, followed by the G5310SCWH at £864 and the AutoOpen G5740SC at £969. Its top model here, the G 7130 SCCLST AutoDos with a 3D MultiFlex Tray, is £1,449.

Bosch's technology is focused on drying and running costs. Its range draws on EcoSilence Drive motors and AquaSensor water monitoring, while PerfectDry zeolite drying works especially well on plastics. The Series 4 SPS4HMW49G adds Home Connect, Active Water and DosageAssist. Miele's signature feature is AutoOpen drying: the door unlatches automatically after the cycle so dishes air out, and the G5740SC includes it as standard. Miele also uses AutoDos, which doses powder automatically, and it tests its machines to 7,500 cycles, a figure it equates to around 20 years of use. Its Hygiene Plus rinse reaches 75°C, and Miele@home adds remote control.

Bosch suits households that want dependable everyday cleaning, Home Connect control and a 14-place machine without premium pricing. Families who cook often will find the 14-place models practical. Miele suits buyers who value AutoOpen drying, a machine built for the long term and an automatic door that makes unloading easier. The gap is large: the Bosch SMS2HVI67G at £449 costs £415 less than the Miele G5310SCWH at £864. For a household that runs the dishwasher daily and expects to keep it for 15 to 20 years, the extra spend can be justified, but it is hard to justify for a rental.

Bottom line: choose Bosch for dependable cleaning, Home Connect control and a 14-place machine at a sensible price. Choose Miele if AutoOpen drying, extra-hot rinses and a machine built to last around two decades matter more than the upfront cost.
