Haier's distinctive features are its Direct Motion Motor, Anti-Bacterial Treatment and Vapour Refresh programme, with Smart Dual Spray on the WiFi models and automatic weight detection on the 8kg I-Pro. Hoover is weighted towards capacity and connectivity. The HWB411AMC pairs an 11kg drum with a 1400rpm spin, a Power Care system and SpeedPerfect, while the H3WPS4106TRR6-80 offers hOn App control and Scan to Care. The 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 is rated B for noise at 76dB.

Haier suits buyers who want a 9kg freestanding machine with quiet direct-drive running, especially those who like the Vapour Refresh cycle for work clothes. Hoover suits households with heavier laundry, as its 11kg and 12kg drums give more space per wash, and its 9kg H3W49TA4-1-80 at £289.99 appeals to renters or anyone on a tight budget. Anyone who expects to wash bedding weekly should look first at the 11kg HWB411AMC. A household that washes towels and bedding every week would get more from the 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 H-WASH 700, which is rated B for noise and offers smart control through the hOn App.

Bottom line: choose Haier if you want a 9kg with Vapour Refresh and Smart Dual Spray at a moderate price, and choose Hoover if you need the most capacity for the money, such as the 11kg HWB411AMC at £399 or the 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 at £499.
