Hoover vs Whirlpool Washing Machines

Hoover and Whirlpool both sell practical family machines, but Whirlpool sits a tier higher on price. Hoover's range runs from the 9kg Hoover H3W49TA4-1-80 at £289.99 to the 12kg Hoover H7W 412MBC-80 at £499. Whirlpool's models cover £499 to £629, led by the freestanding 9kg Whirlpool W899ADSILENCEUK at £629, the 9kg built-in Whirlpool BIWMWG91485UK at £549 and the 8kg built-in Whirlpool BIWMWG81485UK at £499. The built-in Whirlpool BIWDWG961485UK washer-dryer costs £629.

Whirlpool's signature technology is 6th SENSE, which adjusts water, temperature and drum movement to the load, and FreshCare+, which keeps clothes fresh for up to six hours after the cycle. The W899ADSILENCEUK adds Autodose and ZEN Technology for quieter running. Hoover's answer is capacity and smart control, and both of its 9kg-and-larger machines spin at 1400rpm. The 11kg Hoover HWB411AMC at £399 has Wi-Fi and SpeedPerfect, while the 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 combines a B-rated 76dB noise rating with app control.

Whirlpool suits buyers who want fabric care features such as FreshCare+, or anyone fitting a machine under a worktop, since three of its models are built in. Hoover suits households that need the most drum, and the 9kg H3W49TA4-1-80 at £289.99 is the cheapest 9kg machine in this pairing. The 11kg HWB411AMC costs £100 less than the 8kg built-in BIWMWG81485UK, and the 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 costs £130 less than the 9kg W899ADSILENCEUK, which is the most expensive freestanding model in this pairing.

Bottom line: choose Hoover if you want a big drum or Wi-Fi control for less, such as the 11kg HWB411AMC at £399 or the 12kg H7W 412MBC-80 at £499. Choose Whirlpool if you need a built-in machine for a fitted kitchen, or FreshCare+ and Autodose on the freestanding W899ADSILENCEUK at £629.
