Hoover vs Smeg Hobs

Hoover and Smeg both sell four-burner gas hobs, but Smeg's range is built around design and induction. Hoover's HHG6BRMX built-in gas hob costs £169, and its H-Hob 300 HHW6LK3X 60cm stainless steel model is in the same budget band. Smeg offers the PX364L Classic 60cm gas hob in stainless steel at £349, the SI2641DUK four-zone induction hob with touch controls at £389, the 75cm SI2741DUK induction hob at £479 and the SI2741D at £579. The Smeg PX364L costs £180 more than the Hoover HHG6BRMX.

Hoover's technology is straightforward: four gas burners, side dial controls and a stainless steel finish. Smeg's gas hob has four burners in stainless steel with a 600mm width, and its induction models add an ultra-low profile, digital touch controls and automatic switch-off. The SI2741D adds nine power levels and a boost setting, plus residual heat indicators. Smeg also cites a power range from 0.5kW to 7.4kW, cooking zones from 14cm to 30cm and SmegConnect app support on some models. Hoover offers fewer features but a much lower entry price.

Hoover suits gas cooks who want a simple replacement at minimal cost. Smeg suits kitchens where appearance matters, especially where the hob sits alongside other Smeg appliances, and owners who want induction with more precise power settings. Smeg induction models often need a 32-amp circuit, so check the wiring before committing. Gas models need a Gas Safe engineer for installation, which applies to both brands, so the fitting cost narrows the gap between a budget hob and a design-led one.

Bottom line: choose Hoover if a basic four-burner gas hob at the lowest price is all you need; choose Smeg if design, a stainless steel finish or induction with precise power levels is worth paying up to £579 for.
