LG vs Samsung Tumble Dryers

LG and Samsung both concentrate their tumble dryer ranges on heat pump designs with app connectivity, which makes this one of the closest matchups in the set. LG's FDT208S 8kg model sells for £499, while the FDV909BN and FDV909WN 9kg units cost £799 each. Samsung also starts at £499 with the DV90T5240AN 9kg in graphite, and its DV90CGC0A0AEEU 9kg in white costs £549. The top Samsung model, the DV90T6240LE 9kg AI Energy, matches LG's £799 price point exactly. At the £499 level, the practical difference is capacity, since Samsung's entry model gives a full 9kg drum.

Samsung's heat pump dryers carry Optimal Dry sensing, SmartThings connectivity and a five-year warranty, and the Series 7 DV90T6240LE adds AI Energy. The brand also points to AI-powered moisture detection that helps prevent over-drying, and to a diamond drum pattern with smaller holes intended to protect fabrics. LG's distinguishing features are ThinQ and Smart Pairing control, the moisture sensor on the FDT208S, and a Dual Inverter system that speeds drying. LG also offers a 10-year warranty on its inverter motor alongside a two-year general warranty.

LG suits households that want an 8kg option at the lowest price in this pairing, particularly the FDT208S for smaller families or couples. Samsung suits buyers who prioritise smart home use, since SmartThings works with Alexa and Google Assistant. The Series 5 and Series 6 models give 9kg capacity for £499 to £549, which is useful for bulk laundry. Buyers who want Smart Pairing and a longer motor warranty should look at LG's FDV models, which also offer 9kg drums.

Bottom line: choose LG if you want the 8kg FDT208S with a moisture sensor at £499, or a 9kg heat pump with ThinQ control and a 10-year motor warranty, and choose Samsung if you want a 9kg Optimal Dry heat pump at £499 with SmartThings and a five-year warranty.
