LG vs Schonhaus Tumble Dryers

LG and Schonhaus both build heat pump dryers, but LG's range spans a wider price band. LG's 8kg FDT208S heat pump costs £499, the 9kg FDV309GN in slate grey £649, and the 9kg FDV909BN in black or FDV909WN in white £799 each. Schonhaus offers a single 8kg heat pump, the TDSHF018A3W in white or the TDSHF018A3G in graphite, both at £489.99. The FDT208S is only £9.01 more than the Schonhaus, so the choice rests on features rather than cost.

Both brands use heat pump drying, but LG adds more technology. Its Dual Inverter system aims for faster drying while staying efficient, and the EcoHybrid setting lets you switch between energy-saving and time-saving modes. ThinQ app connectivity allows remote monitoring and maintenance alerts, and LG Smart Pairing appears on its 9kg models. The FDT208S includes a moisture sensor and 15 drying programmes, and LG cites a 10-year warranty on the inverter motor. Schonhaus keeps its features simple, with sensor drying on the graphite model and a ventless design that needs no vent hose.

LG suits buyers who want smart app control, a long motor warranty and a choice of drum sizes from 8kg to 9kg. The 9kg FDV909 models measure 850mm high, 600mm wide and 660mm deep, so check the space before buying. Schonhaus suits couples and small households who want the low running costs of a heat pump, a single 8kg size and a graphite option, without paying for app features they may not use. Its 8kg drum handles everyday loads, but larger families may find it small.

Bottom line: choose LG if you want ThinQ app control, a 10-year motor warranty or a 9kg drum, starting at £499 for the 8kg FDT208S, and choose Schonhaus if you want a simple 8kg heat pump with a graphite finish at £489.99 and no vent hose.
