Hotpoint's core features are steam hygiene and anti-stain programmes, with an inverter motor on the NSWM965CBSUKN and an Anti Allergy setting. Samsung counters with ecobubble, which turns detergent into bubbles to clean at lower temperatures, and AddWash, a door within the main door for adding forgotten items mid-cycle. Hygiene Steam is standard on the 8kg and 9kg Samsung models, and every Samsung here carries a five-year warranty. The AI Energy feature appears across the range, and the WW11DG6B25LEU1 offers SpaceMax for a larger drum.

Hotpoint suits households that want steam hygiene and stain removal at the lowest price, particularly a family with children whose clothes need regular treatment. Samsung suits buyers who want AddWash and ecobubble, or who plan to wash at lower temperatures. The 11kg WW11DG6B25LEU1 at £479 is the largest Samsung in this comparison, against a 10kg top model from Hotpoint. The 9kg NSWM965CBSUKN at £339 is £60 cheaper than the 9kg WW90CGC04DABEU at £399, and both brands' 9kg machines suit a family's weekly wash.

Bottom line: choose Hotpoint if you want the lowest price for steam and anti-stain programmes, such as the 9kg NSWM965CBSUKN at £339. Choose Samsung if you want AddWash, ecobubble and a five-year warranty, starting with the 8kg WW80CGC04DAEEU at £349.
