Fisher & Paykel vs Miele Fridge Freezers

Fisher & Paykel and Miele both sit at the premium end of the market, and they overlap at the top of the price scale. The Miele KFN 4795 AD BST in black steel is £2,399, close to Fisher & Paykel's range, while the Miele KDN 7724 E Active Built-In 70/30 NoFrost model is £1,399. Fisher & Paykel models run from the Fisher & Paykel RF610ADJX7 at £2,346 to the Fisher & Paykel RF540ANUX6 with ice and water at £2,698.

Miele's signature is PerfectFresh Pro, which the brand says keeps food fresh for longer, paired with DynaCool circulation for even temperatures. FlexiLight LED shelf lighting and TouchControl, which adjusts in 0.5°C steps, sit alongside its NoFrost system. The KFN 4795 AD BST offers 268 litres of fridge and 103 litres of freezer. Fisher & Paykel uses ActiveSmart, which adjusts temperature, airflow and humidity to use, plus humidity control drawers and a variable temperature zone from -23°C to +7°C. Its ice and water models add a dispenser that the Miele models in this set do not offer.

Miele suits buyers who want a built-in fridge freezer for a fitted kitchen, such as the KDN 7724 E, or a premium model with precise controls, such as the KFN 4795 AD BST. Fisher & Paykel suits those who want a large 569-litre capacity with ice and water, or humidity drawers for produce. Miele's WiFi-enabled models connect to Miele@home for remote control, while ActiveSmart works automatically. The KDN 7724 E's 184-litre fridge and 76-litre freezer suit smaller households than the 417-litre fridge on the Fisher & Paykel models.

Bottom line: choose Miele if you need a built-in unit from £1,399 or want the DynaCool and TouchControl features of the KFN 4795 AD BST at £2,399. Choose Fisher & Paykel if you want 569 litres, ice and water dispensing or humidity-controlled drawers, at £2,346 to £2,698.
