AEG vs Altimo Washing Machines

AEG and Altimo cover very different budgets for washing machines. AEG's prices run from the LFX50842B 8kg 1400rpm at £399 to the LFR71864B 8kg 1600rpm with ProSteam at £579, with the L6FBK841B ProSense at £449 and the LFR73944B 9kg Prosteam at £465 in between. Altimo's machines run from the AWM6122W 6kg 1200rpm at £229 to the AWM10142W 10kg 1400rpm at £299. The cheapest AEG is £100 more than the AWM10142W, and the 1600rpm AEG LFR71864B costs £320 more than the 8kg Altimo AWM8142W.

AEG's technology is the main difference. ProSense adjusts wash time and energy use according to load size, ProSteam refreshes clothes and reduces creasing, and ÖKOMix pre-mixes detergent and softener with water before it enters the drum. Its ProTex gentle drum is designed for delicate fabrics, and the inverter motor carries a 10-year warranty. The LFX50842B offers a rapid 14-minute wash and AutoSense. Altimo's machines are deliberately simple. They have no steam, smart or auto-dosing features, and the 6kg and 7kg models spin at 1200rpm, while the 8kg and 10kg models spin at 1400rpm.

Altimo suits budget buyers, landlords, students and anyone who needs dependable everyday washing without paying for extras. AEG suits people who want steam, fabric care and quieter running and are willing to pay more for them. The ProSteam models are particularly useful for anyone who wants to reduce ironing. Consider how much you will use the extras, because the LFR71864B costs £350 more than the 6kg Altimo AWM6122W, and the Altimo's simple dial controls suit users of all ages.

Bottom line: choose AEG if you want ProSteam, ProSense load sensing and a 1600rpm spin in a machine built for fabric care, and choose Altimo if you want a 10kg drum at £299 or a 6kg machine at £229 without paying for steam or smart features.
