Altimo vs Candy Washing Machines

Altimo and Candy are both firmly budget brands, so the comparison comes down to capacity, spin speed and price per kilogram. Altimo's listings include the AWM6122W 6kg 1200rpm at £229, the AWM8142W 8kg 1400rpm at £259 and the AWM10142W 10kg 1400rpm at £299. Candy's model here is the EY49B8-80, a 9kg 1400rpm washing machine at £269.99, sitting neatly between Altimo's 8kg and 10kg machines on both price and capacity.

Technically, the machines are closely matched. All but Altimo's smallest model spin at 1400rpm, which removes enough water to shorten drying times whether you line dry or use a tumble dryer. The differences are in drum size and brand backing. Candy, part of the Haier group, has a long history in European laundry and a wide UK service network. Altimo keeps its range simple, concentrating on core programmes and offering a 6kg option for small spaces and a 10kg option for big families.

On value, Altimo's AWM10142W stands out: an extra kilogram over the Candy for under £30 more, which matters for bedding, towels and families washing daily. The Candy EY49B8-80 is a sensible middle ground for households of three or four who want a bigger drum than 8kg without paying more. Altimo's AWM6122W suits couples, flats and second homes where space and budget are tight, though its 1200rpm spin leaves clothes slightly wetter.

Bottom line: choose Altimo if you want the most capacity for the money, with the AWM10142W 10kg at £299 as the best buy, or the AWM6122W for small homes. Opt for Candy if a 9kg drum suits your household and you prefer a long-established brand, with the EY49B8-80 at £269.99.
